I wish I’d started sooner!

Prevention is better than cure, it’s never to early to start, I wish I’d started sooner.
These are all words that I’ve either heard or said myself when discussing skincare!!
So to understand my passion for what we do here at SDA let’s first hear about my own personal skincare journey!!

I started working at SDA 5 years ago, I was 35! I was pretty happy with my skin, yes it was starting to show signs of age, lines across the forehead, lines around the eyes mainly! And small areas of uneven tone due to pigmentation from sun exposure! I have always looked after my skin being in the beauty industry but with 3 young sons and a busy family life just removing my make up at the end of the day seemed like a win!
When I started working for Sarah she encouraged me to try all of the treatments we then had to offer so I could more easily understand how the treatments felt for clients and the results expected from treatment. I had IPL Skin Rejuvenation which helped with the tone and texture. I also had a course of Venus freeze treatments to lift and tighten my 35 year old skin!!! My skin felt and looked great afterwards! But as I didn’t feel I had a lot of concerns in the first place was it a true reflection of what these machines were capable of??!!
Fast forward 5 years! My skin looks great, it’s never looked better in fact! I’ve aged 5 years but my skin most definitely has not. A year ago I went though a period of ill health and had a year of hospital treatment. My skin wasn’t looking it’s best but I continued to use good quality skincare (Medik8) at home to keep it ticking over! Once my treatment was over I started to have regular facials and use more advanced skincare products to try and get my skin back on track!! And it worked!! I’m constantly getting compliments on my skin and I’m really happy with how it looks and feels. Obviously I tell people it does help that I work in a Skin and Laser clinic!
So what I’m saying is, I know from first hand experience that the treatments we offer here really work. If I hadn’t started working at SDA I don’t think in all honesty I would have been thinking about my ageing skin until at least the age I am now (40!) but the fact that I started looking after my skin on a more intensive level 5 years ago has really made all the difference!! Prevention really is better than cure!

Here is a rundown of the treatments I have to keep my skin healthy and looking good.
Fraxional laser 1 x per year. I have this treatment just once a year as a preventative treatment for lines and for collagen stimulation. It’s also great for historical scarring (like acne scars) and stretch marks. We’ve had this particular wonder machine for 2 years so I’ve only had it done twice.
Ipl Laser Skin Rejuvenation 2 x per year. I have this to help reduce lines, stimulate collagen, even out skin tone and treat pigmentation. I use a spf50 on my skin daily but that sun will still always get through to a certain extent! So having IPL treatment just twice a year helps to keep pigment at bay.
Venus freeze every 2 months, 6 x per year. I have the Venus freeze treatment to help keep keep my skin tight and plump. It uses Magnetic Pulse to create micro circulation under the skin and Radio Frequency which helps to stimulate collagen synthesis.
After an initial course of 6 weekly treatments the Venus freeze should be maintained once every 3 months. I have the treatment once every 2 months as I love the way my skin feels immediately afterwards, some of my clients also do the same.
This may seem like a lot of treatments to start with but this isn’t where I started, it’s where I am now! Time and budget when you’re in your 20’s and 30’s dictate what you can do for your skin but starting small can make a big difference.
I would recommend having just one ipl treatment a year if you’re in your 20’s and maybe 2 a year if you’re in your 30’s! As time, budget and skin concerns change so can your skincare routine. We keep evolving to make change.
I leave you with words from some of my lovely clients...
*My skin has never looked so good! A client in her 60’s after being treated with IPL for skin pigmentation concerns.
*I should have started this years ago, I feel so much more confident! A client in her 30’s being treated for excess facial hair growth.
*I wish I’d started sooner! A client in her 50’s with a big event coming up.
So in my opinion prevention really is better than cure, start small and your 40/50/60/70 year old skin will thank you for it!
